Overcoming menstrual myths

June 6, 2018

We were blessed to get an opportunity to visit Bethsaida Secondary School on 27th May 2018 for Menstrual Hygiene Day celebration. This day was amazing as we were got together with around 130 girls. We arrived during lunch time where most of the girls were still enjoying their lunch, so we had the pleasure of sharing with them the delicious rice and beans they were having.

To celebrate Menstrual Hygiene Day we had organized a short educational quiz where four groups of four were formed and the girls competed in answering Menstrual Hygiene Management related questions.   We were impressed by how knowledgeable they all were and how they asked many questions related to menstruation which showed the need of reaching out to more girls as they still struggle with misconceptions on the topic of menstruation.

Later with the help of Alice Magaka and her Pink Box Initiative team we played a game where girls had to say out loud a menstrual myth that they thought was true all along and then kick a bottle as a symbol of breaking taboo.

Like in all other schools with amazing talented girls they greeted us with their own dance and a fashion show.  At the end of the event girls were so grateful for the fun time we had together, learning as well as the pads that we donated to them.

We are so thankful to Kays Hygiene Products Limited for collaborating with us through donating pads to cover for Menstrual Hygiene Day Celebration.
