Project 1: Kidigitali project

Kidigitali Project (Digital Skills Empowerment for Girls and Young Women):

Problem
In Tanzania, the digital gender gap limits girls' opportunities in sectors like animation and digital skills development. Only 35% of women have internet access compared to 50% of men (ITU, 2022), and just 28% of girls aged 15-24 have basic digital literacy, while 45% of boys have these skills (World Bank, 2023). This gap reduces their chances to engage in the digital economy and build relevant careers.

The animation industry, which could offer new creative opportunities for girls, remains largely inaccessible. Fewer than 10% of animation training programs in Tanzania include girls, and even fewer women work in the industry (UN Women, 2023). Barriers like limited access to training, societal expectations, and lack of female representation in technology make it difficult for girls to pursue these fields.

Closing this gap means improving digital literacy and opening up pathways for girls to enter animation and other technology-driven industries.

Intervention:

Tai is committed to closing the digital gender gap in Tanzania by equipping girls, both in and out of school, with critical digital skills and specialized training in animation. Recognizing that girls face significant barriers in accessing technology and relevant education, Tai focuses on creating opportunities for them to develop the digital competencies necessary for success in today’s economy. By providing practical, hands-on learning experiences, Tai empowers girls to explore careers in technology, animation, and other digital fields, which are often male-dominated.

Through tailored programs, Tai ensures that girls gain not only digital literacy but also the creative and technical skills to thrive in the growing animation industry. By addressing inequalities in education and technology access, Tai seeks to foster a more inclusive digital future where girls can realize their full potential, contribute to the economy, and become leaders in the digital and creative sectors.

Project 1: Kidigitali Project.

Kidigitali Project (Digital Skills Empowerment for Girls and Young Women):

Tai’s Kidigitali Project focuses on empowering girls and young women, including those with disabilities, by teaching essential digital skills using the Oky App. This mobile platform provides training in vital areas such as internet navigation, online safety, data privacy, digital citizenship, and social media management, ensuring accessibility and user-friendliness.

The Oky App also enables girls to track their menstrual cycles and access age-appropriate sexual and reproductive health educational content, offering holistic support for their development.

We conduct interactive workshops and mentorship programs to create meaningful learning experiences in collaboration with local organizations and schools. Our advocacy efforts aim to promote digital inclusion, challenge stereotypes, and increase the participation of women and individuals with disabilities in the digital economy.

By equipping girls with these crucial skills, Tai aims to help them harness technology for their educational, economic, and social growth, contributing to a more inclusive digital environment. This project is implemented in partnership with UNICEF and GIZ.

Project 2: Girls in Animation

Tai aims to empower girls by providing specialized training in animation skills, equipping them with the creative and technical expertise needed to thrive in the animation industry. By offering hands-on learning opportunities, Tai enables girls to develop competencies in storytelling, design, and digital animation tools, helping them explore careers in this dynamic and growing field. The program seeks to break down barriers that limit girls' participation in creative industries, fostering confidence and unlocking new opportunities for economic empowerment. Through this initiative, Tai envisions a future where more girls lead and innovate in the animation sector.
