For so long, menstrual health has been surrounded by silence, stigma, and misinformation. But change is happening, and it’s happening now. Though our partnership with UNICEF Tanzania , we set out on a mission to empower girls with the knowledge, tools, and confidence they need to take control of their periods and the results have been nothing short of transformational.

Our team visited around 20 secondary schools in Dar es Salaam as well as universities in Dodoma, girls from out of school (youth centers), and girls with disabilities to introduce students to the OKY Tanzania application. This period tracking app which can be used offline is designed to fit the lives of girls living in Tanzania and is usable in Kiswahili and English language. It includes daily cards to document the user’s menstrual cycle as well as an encyclopedia with reliable information on the topics of health, puberty, legal rights, and digital skills. The conducted events included information sessions about period safety and account activations.

This isn’t just about OKY. It’s about creating a future where periods are no longer a source of shame but a symbol of strength. Every girl, no matter where she is or what challenges she faces, has the knowledge and confidence to thrive. Because when girls rise, society rises with them. We are excited that in January, we were able to engage over 3,800 girls with the knowledge to track their period digitally, provide them with sanitary towels, and be able to access correct information about menstrual health hygiene.
Our collaboration with the students was truly inspiring, and we are thrilled by the overwhelmingly positive feedback from both teachers and participants. Together, we are not just breaking taboos we’re building a future where every girl has the support, knowledge, and dignity she deserves.
Tai reaches youth with the Digital Skills Series.
Tanzania faces a significant digital skills gap, ranking 13th out of 26 African countries with a low score of 3.3 out of 10 in the Digital Skills Cap in Tanzania Index. Many young people, especially in rural areas, lack the necessary digital literacy to compete in today’s job market. Without skills in internet navigation, online safety, and digital marketing, they struggle to access educational resources, employment opportunities, and entrepreneurial tools, widening the socio-economic divide.

Recognizing this challenge, Tai is stepping into equipping young people with essential digital skills. Through engaging digital series videos, we teach internet basics, online safety, and digital marketing to empower youth with the knowledge they need to thrive. By providing these learning resources, we aim to bridge the digital divide, ensuring that young Tanzanians are consumers of digital technology and active participants in the digital economy.
Digital Skills Series is out now!Watch here.
These videos are available on our YouTube channels, Tai Academy and Tai Impact, where young people can learn more and upskill for a brighter digital future.
